Skincare Beauty Routine: Reflags to Look For In 2024
Skincare products have improved over the years and have helped a lot of people mostly women attain youthful glowing skin and build the confidence in people. Looking like your young self boosts your confidence in many rooms, sometimes some skincare products have helped our skin look much more radiant than it was even when we were younger. Let’s face it, we sometimes practice certain routines that may be harmful to the skin and this practice could be termed as skincare reflag. Most times we are just ignorant of the dangers these practices may pose to our skin. let’s discuss some skincare red flags that you should not practice in 2024.
REFUSING TO INCLUDE THE NECK AREA
Experts have suggested that whatever you do to your face, do the same to your neck. Concentrating only on your face and neglecting the neck area will give both your face and neck two different types of skin or even different skin shades which isn’t a good skincare practice. How will you feel having your face look all firm, no wrinkles, and radiant whilst your neck is looking saggy? awkward right? I thought so too. Let us try to include the neck area when applying skincare products to the face.
OVER EXFOLIATING
Exfoliating is important in skincare routines, it helps remove dead skin cells, clogged pores, etc. but overdoing it is not healthy for the skin. Over-exfoliating disrupts the skin PH balance and the skin barriers. Experts suggest a person exfoliate once or twice every week, going beyond this number is termed as over-exfoliating. I prefer chemical exfoliating to physical exfoliation, physical exfoliating is harsh on the skin but chemical exfoliating removes dead skin cells gently without applying force as physical exfoliating does. Making sure you choose the right type of exfoliate is also key to not disrupting the skin barrier.
OCCASIONAL USE OF SUNSCREEN
Wearing sunscreen is an important step in every beauty routine, don’t just reserve your sunscreen for summer. This is a bad practice when it comes to caring for your skin. Having a skincare routine are you investing in your skin to have that youthful glow or do you have some skin concerns that need fixing? Some skincare products have actives in them and these products make your skin very sensitive to sunlight and prone to sunburns. Hence if you remove sunscreen from your beauty routine, you are only investing in your skin to lose. Encourage incorporating sunscreen into your beauty routine daily.
NOT CHANGING YOUR FACE TOWELS REGULARLY
Using a face towel for some time is not a healthy skincare practice, yet another skincare red flag. When you use a face towel on your face the likelihood of leaving dirt in the face towel is high, but instead of washing it or even changing it, you still use that same face towel with dirt on your face. Transferring germ from the towel back onto your face. It is advisable to use facial wipes or disposable facial towels or change the face towels regularly.
AVOID USING SOAP TO WASH YOUR FACE
The ingredient found in soup does more damage to the face than it helps the skin. Washing the face with soap clog the pores of your face. I know there are times you are out of facial wash and feel like soap and water could give the same result not knowing it’s rather clogging the pores on the face. In situations like this, you should use your facial wipes to remove dirt from your face and wash your face with just water.
IN CONCLUSION
Taking care of your skin is very important, but also make sure you are not addicted to skincare. Every good thing has its downside. Eliminating these red flags from your beauty routine and staying consistent with your dreams of reversing your aging skin should be achieved.
